David Hakim’s (he/him) practice focuses on both trials and appeals. He works tirelessly to bring clarity to complex legal issues and to deliver the best possible outcomes for his clients.
David has successfully argued appeals before the Superior Court of Justice and Court of Appeal for Ontario, and he has appeared as an intervener before the Supreme Court of Canada. David’s approach to advocacy is informed by his experience clerking for some of Canada’s most respected judges. He is a former law clerk of Justices Katherine van Rensburg, Benjamin Zarnett, and Steve A. Coroza at the Court of Appeal for Ontario, and for Madam Justice Andromache Karakatsanis at the Supreme Court of Canada.
Prior to joining Furgiuele Law, David worked at another leading criminal law boutique in Toronto where he successfully represented clients in matters including homicide and sexual assault trials. David also completed his articling term and worked as a litigation associate at a national business law firm.
David received his J.D. with Distinction from Western Law. In law school, he served as Co-Chair of Western's advocacy committee, won First Place Team in the Legate & Associates Medical Malpractice Moot, received the J.S.D. Tory Writing Prize, and completed the Debwewin Law Internship with the Ministry of the Attorney General, Indigenous Justice Division. Before law school, David completed his M.A. and B.A. (Honours) in philosophy at Western University.
David was called to the Bar in 2020 and is a member of the Law Society of Ontario and Criminal Lawyers’ Association. In his personal time, David enjoys cooking, live music, and travel.
